2016 is set to be a big year in the automotive world. From sub-£15,000 pocket rockets to outlandish three-ton super-SUVs, we’re going to see some seriously exciting stuff hit the UK in the next 12 months. Here are the cars we’re really excited about:
Mazda MX-5 2.0i
This souped-up version of the perennial Japanese roadster promises to deliver some serious bang for your buck. Priced from a modest £20,095 with the highest-spec version setting you back £23,295, the newest iteration MX-5 still offers the lightning-sharp handling of old and decent straight-line speed, without breaking the bank.
Alfa Romeo Giulia
The brand-new Giulia saloon is Alfa’s attempt to break into a market dominated by the German luxury marques and, more recently, the Jaguar XE. It’s too soon to tell whether they’ll manage it, but one thing’s for sure: the Giulia’s jaw-dropping styling is in a class of its own. Several engine sizes and specifications are planned for release, but the first will be the range-topping 3.0 V6 – producing a massive 503 bhp.
2016 Tesla Model S
We’re already familiar with Tesla’s environmentally friendly sports saloon. But the updates for 2016 make it nothing short of a technological marvel. Physical battery upgrades have given the car an increased all-electric range of 240 miles, while downloadable software updates have added a host of sci-fi-like features, including the ability to summon the car towards you from a distance of 39 feet.
Mercedes AMG GT S
The German manufacturer’s flagship sports car gets a makeover for 2016, losing the gullwing doors of the previous model but gaining an all-new 4.0 V8 engine, giving the car a 0 - 60 mph time of just 3.7 seconds – so it’s equally at home on the road and on the track. This is a car to turn some heads.
